WRFG 89.3 is a 24-hour radio station with a broadcasting power of 100,000 Watts. It serves as an important platform for underrepresented voices in the media, ensuring that a diverse range of community members have access.

Since its establishment in 1973, WRFG has played a vital role in Atlanta's radio landscape. As one of the first stations to feature regional musical genres like blues, bluegrass, and jazz since the 1950s, it has filled a significant gap. Demonstrating Atlanta's status as an "international city," WRFG has also pioneered programming dedicated to the Latin, African, Asian, and Caribbean communities in the area. Moreover, WRFG stands out for its efforts in live broadcasting from events such as the Arts Festival of Atlanta and the Georgia Grassroots Festival.

WRFG's impact extends beyond its music-focused initiatives. The station has made a remarkable contribution by broadcasting speakers at the Hungry Club, a renowned interracial forum in Atlanta. In addition, WRFG has been exceptional in regularly featuring local poets, playwrights, and authors – an initiative unmatched by any other radio station. The station has also taken the lead in providing specialized programming for Atlanta's neighborhoods, disabled community, alternative lifestyles, and other unique audience segments. Notably, WRFG's comprehensive coverage of significant events like the 1987 rebellion at the Atlanta Federal Penitentiary has earned widespread acclaim.

One aspect where WRFG truly shines is its documentary productions. From 1977 to 1980, WRFG created the impressive "Living Atlanta!" series, comprising 50 parts about the city's history. Furthering its impact, the University of Georgia Press published a book based on this award-winning series in the autumn of 1989.
